Powell is back to aid Poppies promotion push

So the rumours on the terraces at Spalding on Saturday were correct as today is was confirmed that Callum Powell has returned to Latimer Park from Braintree Town. The 28 year old attacker was a massive success in his first spell with The Poppies. He was signed by Paul Cox in November 2020 from Stratford Town and made his debut against Guiseley before netting twice four days later in a 3-3 draw away at Hereford.

In total Callum scored 19 goals in 35 appearances for The Poppies before leaving to join National League side Southend United in January 2022 for an undisclosed fee. Callum quickly became a fans favourite at Roots Hall making 67 appearances and scoring 17 goals. A knee injury kept him out for a six month spell during the 2023/24 season and in July 2024 he left Southend to join their National League rivals Braintree Town.

Callum made 16 appearances for Braintree before spending a month on loan with Tamworth. He returned to Braintree from Tamworth last week and was on the bench for their 2-1 defeat to Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Poppies boss Richard Lavery was delighted to bring Powell back to Latimer Park, telling the clubs official website "I am delighted to get Callum over the line, he is a great signing for us and a player I have known and been after for some time. He will give us that extra drive, the fans of course know him from his previous time at the club. He's got the desire and commitment I want as we go forward into the New Year, He is just the type of player I felt we needed"

Callum will be in the squad for the Boxing Day fixture with Biggleswade Town at Latimer Park
