Kettering Town 2
AFC Sudbury 1
Att: 1439
Goals from Kettering Town's own local lads Connor Johnson and Luca Miller gave The Poppies the three points that saw the move to the top of the Southern League Premier Division table.
Skipper Johnson headed home a superb Ben Hart cross on 44 minutes to give The Poppies the lead. But the home side were rocked when a minute later the visitors drew level with a fine strike from Joe Neal that screamed into the top corner of the net past Dan Jezeph.
But Academy product Miller who had only been on the field for two minutes netted what proved to be the winner on 64 minutes when he turned and sent a delightful deft finish into the top corner past James Bradbrook in the Sudbury goal.
Whilst The Poppies were far from their best it was in the end a deserved three points against a side who made things difficult all game. Sudbury came with a game plan of sitting deep with eleven men behind the ball looking to hit the Poppies on the break and but for Miller's moment of brilliance would have left Latimer Park with the point that they came for.
The three points moved Kettering to the summit of the league table ahead of Tuesday night's home fixture against 2nd placed Stourbridge at Latimer Park. Hopefully another four figured crown can be there to help roar The Poppies to another three points.
